In many international communities and co-operations, there is the problem of language, obviously.
It creates a bit of a 'barrier' sometimes.
Some of the options we have:
-Speak in any language we want [French, Japanese, Yapese]
-Only speak in one language [Which would probably be English, as it is the de-facto, in the same way people trade internationally in US$]
-Speak in a small variety of selected languages, [This would need more discussion, English and Arabic are likely to be used] This could be anything from 2 to 20 languages, The most commonly spoken languages [or the languages that most of our members speak]
The first option - any language we want - would allow anyone to come on the forum, but unfortunatly, i think it would cause a lot of problems, it could get to the point where no one understands each other, and would be rather chaotic.
there would be problems with communication and also a lot of problems with people respecting each other and braking the rules, someone could insult someone else and the admins and moderators would not know, If one person said somthing nasty in a language i did not understand, and caused a lot of offense to people, it is less likely a moderator like me would do anything, as i would not know that they are saying such things.
Second option - One language, preferably a widely spoken one like english, this would simplify things a lot and cause less problems with comunication, most conversations would be understood by everyone here.
The problem is, which ever language we choose, there may be many people who speak it, but not everyone will speak it, meaning some people will either have to learn the language or not join.
We could lose many potential members.
Third option - Use multiple languages, but those languages would be limited to a few selected languages [for example, the 5 most widely spoken languages]
In my opinion, this would be a good comprimise, a lot less people would be alienated, but a lot of the time we can understand each other some of the time.
This option would have to be discussed in more detail,
Like, we could have a main language, but if people really wanted to, they could speak in one of the forums secondary languages.
There would also be the comprimise of people learning basic english, and being able to talk in a secondary language which another member would help translate.
Whcih ever option we choose, remember, if you have trouble comunicating, ask a fellow member, we are like family here .
